School Magazine Contents Page Stage 4

Evaluation

My media product, the contents page uses pictures to show that this week is a rugby edition. Also the red text next to the pictures tells the reader this. Contents pages that exist as current media products use this technique often to show the theme of the magazine. The “NME” music magazine that i have evaluated below uses this technique.  The product represents sporting social groups at school, this is shown by the chosen hill school badge in the backround and the pictures at the bottom.

The magazine would be distributed at school for students either currently playing sport at chosen hill or for students who are interested in starting sport.

Music Magazine Contents Page

Contents pages tend to need to be very informative, telling the reader what is inside the installment of a certain magazine. The title “NME” gives belonging to the magazine and a centerpiece which is catches the readers eye.  There are also big text bold sub-headings making the target audience want to read, if they are interested in what the contents page offers in its sub-headings. The different colour texts shows there is a variety of content inside the magazine.

On the right there are insights on news and reviews, telling the reader where to look inside the magazine to find this content. The headlines or titles in the contents page are different colours than everything else to create sections in the page and the audience would be inclined to read each part of the page in sections. The name of the magazine is in red which stands out more than anything on the page displaying an advertising technique, making the reader remember what company makes this magazine and if they want similar content they should buy other “NME” magazines. This helps the companys sell more products.

Music Magazine Research

This music magazine cover has alot going on to draw in the target audience. First of all an iconic music star, Usher fills up most of the space used in this cover. Any fans of this popular music star would have an urge to pick this up, this draws in many music fans for this magazine. The way he is posed shows off his expensive jewellry, watches and rings. This reflects upon his high lifestyle and would attract readers who aspire to be like this and become rich and famous. The word “swagger” is used specifically to attract readers who would use this kind of language to describe jewellry or style. The tattoo on his hand shows youth and some rebellion. Reflecting well on the target audience.

The word “vibe” is used in big bold writing to clearly advertise the make of the magazine. Alot of phrases and bold, different colour writing stand out on this magazine talking about music, the celebrities involved and much more. “15 shocking celebrity sex scandals”, anybody who is even remotely interested in celebrities will find this appealling and want to pick it up, this part of text stands out very well and the black and yellow colours here could indicate danger, drawing in the reader. The word “sex” is used many times on this cover. This opens for a wide range of target readers as alot of people are interested in this, sometimes sensitive topic.

The reason i have chosen to evaluate this magazine cover is because the target audience for my music magazine cover will be young people. The target audience for this magazine will be similar to the target audience for mine. Also this cover has alot of bold colourful text to draw in the reader. I will be using this technique in my own design.

School Magazine (Informal) Stage 5

This is my final design of my informal school magazine cover. I have added small insights of what is inside the magazine to catch the eye of the target audience.

Evaluation

My media product uses small parts of text on the front that stand out, these texts are short, easily read and eye catching. This technique is often used in magazine covers to draw the reader in. It would be hard to find an existing magazine cover that does not have insights of what is in the magazine on the front, I found this out in my research. A Picture of somebody repesnting the mgazine is also used a lot in magazine covers. Here I have chosen somebody playing rugby for Chosen Hill. I think this represents the school well and students would look up to him and they would be inspired to take part in sport.

My media product represents sporting groups. The picture on the front of somebody playing rugby reflects well upon the population of rugby players and the sporting community. The different components of sport in the bottom left corner also represents the nation of sports and sporting groups. My product would be distributed at school. This would encourage students to get involved in sports. It would also keep people doing sports at chosen hill up to date with results, fixtures etc. The audience for my product would be young people at chosen hill interested in getting involved with sports or keeping fit. My target audience would also be current sport players at Chosen Hill who want to keep up to date with the sport they take part in.

I addressed my audience casually because this magazine is aimed at teenagers, not adults, attracting the target audience with small pieces of information that stand out from the backround. A picture relevant to the theme and mood of my magazine cover was used. The backround I used is eye catching and attracting, making use of school colours to give a sense of belonging. I have learnt a lot about how to use photoshop and how the programme works. I have learnt how to resize and reshape layers. I now know how to cut certain parts that you want from a photo and add it to designs.

Here I have added components of different sports in the bottom left corner. I think this helps give the cover a sporty theme and draw in the target audience.

Here are the pictures I used. I then used photoshop to cut them and put them in place on the magazine cover.

Here ive added a backround to make the cover look more flowing and pleasing to the eye. I think the different sizes of stripe work well for this.
